Cambrian GLAD Trainers Recognized

Cambrian School District has been implementing the GLAD initiative for the last 5 years.  GLAD, otherwise know as Guided Language Acquisition by Design, nationally recognized by the Department of Education is an instructional model that aims to help teachers by providing differentiated strategies to integrate instruction in English and grade-level content in all classrooms. GLAD does not simply helps teachers to build basic English conversation skills, but it specifically develops academic English, building the vocabulary and linguistic structures that students must use to participate in context-rich discourse.

With its initial implementation, our primary goal was to ensure that all teachers in Cambrian be provided the training so teachers are equipped with effective research-based instructional strategies to engage all students, particularly English learners, at the highest level of learning.  Since its implementation, we are also glad to say that we experienced continuous growth in annual measurable achievement objectives in EL students’ English proficiency over the last 4 years as by the CA English Language Development Test.

Our secondary goal is to also ensure that ongoing support and continuous learning for teachers is critical in order for teachers and district staff to continue to deepen their knowledge of the GLAD model and strategies.  By dedicating themselves to our CSD’s vision of sustaining the high quality instruction, these “GLADiators” committed themselves to increasing their comprehension of the GLAD model to become certified trainers.  And in doing so, they are helping to sustain the implementation of GLAD and to build internal capacity for future GLAD trainings in Cambrian.

It is with great appreciation and enthusiasm that we recognize the following individuals: Chau Chieng, Michelle Ignacio, Jenny Fore, Joanne Grigore, Jacqueline Silva, Amy O’Hehir, Jenna Greco and Kristin Ferry for their dedication and commitment by successfully completing their GLAD Training of Trainer Certification and are now officially GLAD Trainers for the Cambrian School District.
