Volunteering in Cambrian

Yes. If you plan to volunteer during the school year, we encourage you to complete the CSD Volunteer Clearance process in advance.

Completing the process now will ensure you are cleared and ready to volunteer when an opportunity arises. Please keep in mind that some parts of the clearance process take time, so we recommend starting early rather than waiting until you have a specific volunteer opportunity.

Yes. If you are volunteering as part of a school activity or program and will be working with or supporting students or staff, you are required to complete the CSD Volunteer Clearance process.

Families have many opportunities to participate in our school communities without volunteer clearance. Parents, guardians, and family members attending events such as morning assemblies, student performances, PBL exhibitions, Open Houses, and other family events do not need to complete the volunteer clearance process simply to attend.

Also, for Home and School Club-sponsored family events, such as a Fall Festival, where families are present and parents or guardians remain responsible for supervising their own children, individuals helping with the event do not need to complete the District volunteer clearance process.  The Home and School Clubs will communicate in advance if an event includes volunteer roles that require District clearance.

No, since students who are coming and going to school are typically under the supervision of their parents, we will not be requiring it at this time.

No. Your fingerprint/background clearance remains valid as long as you continue volunteering with the Cambrian School District.

No, you are not required to have your fingerprints completed through Verify Group, Inc. The Cambrian School District has worked with Verify Group for many years because of their excellent customer service and timely processing.

Yes, you may have your fingerprints completed at another reputable fingerprinting agency. However, your fingerprints must be associated with the Cambrian School District using our ORI code, A6895, which the California Department of Justice assigned to the District.

You may take Cambrian’s Request for Live Scan Service form (linked here) to any reputable fingerprinting agency to ensure your fingerprints are properly associated with the District.

Yes. Results cannot be shared between agencies or organizations due to confidentiality.  If your fingerprints were completed for another organization or employer, you will still need to complete the fingerprinting process for the Cambrian School District. 

If you have already been fingerprinted by the Cambrian School District, you do not need to be fingerprinted again. Simply enter the date you were fingerprinted on the appropriate form. If you are unsure of the exact date, an approximate date will help us locate your records.

If we determine that your fingerprint clearance is no longer valid due to a termination of the subscription—typically because of separation from employment—or a statutory expiration, we will notify you.

If you were previously fingerprinted as a CSD volunteer, it is very likely that you will not need to complete the fingerprinting process again.

Fingerprinting costs can vary by service center.  Fingerprinting with Verify Group, Inc. costs $77. You only need to complete the fingerprinting process once. Once you finish, you are done for the entire time you remain in the district.

If the fingerprinting cost would be prohibitive for you to volunteer, please let your principal know, as a limited number of scholarships are available.

Yes. You may attend any of the fingerprinting sessions offered at a Cambrian school site or the District Office. Your child does not need to attend the school where you complete your fingerprinting.

You only need to be fingerprinted once for the Cambrian School District, regardless of which Cambrian school(s) you volunteer at.

If you completed your AB 509 Mandated Reporter Training through Keenan SafeSchools Training, you may upload your completion certificate in the appropriate section of the Volunteer Clearance Checklist.

If you completed the training through another provider, you will need to complete the training again through Keenan SafeSchools Training to meet the District’s volunteer clearance requirements.

Santa Clara County reports more cases of active TB each year than 30 states. To help protect the health and safety of students and staff, volunteers must provide documentation showing they are free of active TB before volunteering.

If you have already completed a TB test or screening, you do not need to repeat it. You may submit a copy of your existing results, provided they meet the District’s requirements.

Most doctors’ offices will complete a TB risk assessment questionnaire. If your physician determines that you are not at high risk for tuberculosis, they can complete the required form.

In some cases, your physician may determine that a TB skin test or blood test is necessary. Your doctor will let you know if additional testing is required.

Physicians may use their own form or may use the form provided by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). CDPH TB Risk Assessment Form is linked here.
