Welcome to PLTW and Media Productions (PNN)
with Mr. Olsen
Project Lead the Way 1
Design and Modeling: Students will learn the engineering process to solve a variety of engineering design challenges. Students will be introduced to the profession CAD program AutoDesk Inventor and they will use it to help them model their design solutions. Students will create parts, assembles, drawings, and animations with Inventor. Students will be introduced to 3D printing they will design and print a key fob.
Automation and Robotics: Students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics. They learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation and computer control systems. Students use a VEX robotics platform to design, build, and program a solution to solve existing engineering problems.
Project Lead the Way 2 (successful completion of PLTW 1 required)
Students will build on what they learned in the PLTW 1 course, starting with Robotics. Student will be challenged with more complex design challenges to further their understanding of Robotics through programing.
Students will be introduced to automated manufacturing through CAD/CAM and 3D printing projects.
Students will learn more AutoDesk Inventor features to design and test a rocket and CO2 dragster. They will test their designs using virtual wind tunnel software, Flow Design, used by product designers, engineers, and architects. It models airflow around design concepts to help test ideas early in the development cycle.
Students will participate in variety of TV studio jobs to help in the production of our schools daily news show, PNN (Price News Network). Students will learn how to use video-broadcasting equipment including video cameras, audio and video mixing boards, teleprompter, a title and graphics maker, as well as video editing software. Student will contribute to the show by writing, filming, editing, and producing their own original reporter projects when they are not participating in the show.
