Student Data Privacy

If a website or app is asking for any type of student data, we have a responsibility to make sure the vendor has privacy policies in place that will protect this data and comply with state and federal student data privacy laws, for example, to prohibit student data mining and targeted marketing. To maintain compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA) and other privacy laws, the Cambrian School District vets instructional apps and digital tools to confirm that they are properly handling student data.

Cambrian School District has joined the California Student Privacy Alliance (CSPA). CSPA has created a unified agreement that vendors and school districts can enter into for protecting student data.  CSPA also maintains a database of district/vendors who have entered into these unified agreements.  CSPA is an important part of Cambrian's ongoing vetting process.

In an effort to provide students with meaningful learning opportunities and teachers with a repository of safe digital resources, we have put together a list of online tools that have been vetted for compliance with student privacy policies.  The database below allows you to search by program or privacy compliance status. This is an ongoing process as new digital tools are introduced or existing contracts come up for renewal.
