Assessment

Assessment is an important component of what teachers do on a daily basis in their classrooms.  Teachers use both informal and formal, periodic assessments in the core academic areas to glean a clear, data-based understanding of what children know and what needs to be re-taught or extended.

Aligned with CA State Standards and instruction, the primary use of assessment is for teachers to determine the academic needs of their students and to assist them in designing instruction that will meet those needs.

On January 1, 2014, the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System was established. The primary purpose of the CAASPP System is to assist teachers, administrators, students, and parents by promoting high-quality teaching and learning through the use of a variety of assessment approaches and item types.
