Budget
The Cambrian School District continues to face budget challenges due to unexpected enrollment declines, rising operational costs, and a projected General Fund balance that is below the state-required 3% reserve.
Despite these challenges, Cambrian remains fully committed to long-term financial stability and to protecting what matters most — our students, programs, and staff.
In October 2024, Cambrian established a Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) to identify and recommend strategies that reduce deficit spending and strengthen our fiscal outlook. The BAC is actively exploring ways to close a projected $2.6 million budget gap for the 2026–27 school year through cost savings and new revenue opportunities.
Even after implementing a $2 million reduction plan for 2025–2026, the District experienced an unexpected loss of 142 students over the summer, resulting in a revenue reduction of more than $1.3 million, as reported at the September 4, 2025, Board Meeting. Meanwhile, costs for benefits, utilities, and essential services continue to rise.
To maintain financial stability and ensure resources are focused on the classroom, Cambrian must act now to reduce spending and preserve programs that directly support student learning.
