Board of Trustees
The Governing Board of Trustees is composed of five elected members and serves a four-year term. Elections are held in even-numbered years and terms are staggered to ensure that only 2 or 3 seats are open each election. The Cambrian Board of Trustees works with the Superintendent to:
- Provide direction for the district
- Establish District policies and procedures
- Ensures accountability
- Provide community leadership on behalf of the district and public education

Board Member Since 2014
Carol Presunka was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2014. She and her family have lived in the Cambrian District for the past 17 years, and two of her three children are currently attending Cambrian schools. Carol volunteers in Cambrian schools, supporting teachers in and out of the classroom; before assuming her role on the board she was involved in the Home & School Club, first as Vice-President and then as President, and served as a Girl Scout Leader. In addition, she currently sits on the board of the Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood Foundation, a cause dear to her heart.
Carol worked in the telecommunications industry as a Marketing Manager and a Project Manager for a non-profit organization. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, and a Masters of Business Administration Degree from Penn State University.

Dr. Beth Erickson was sworn in as the newest member of our 5-member Board of Trustees in February of 2023. She filled the vacancy left when Mr. Donald Rocha stepped down in late 2022.
Dr. Erickson has been tremendously active in the Cambrian community, with two children in the district. She has served as the President of the Home and School Club for Farnham Elementary School and Price Middle School and as the Treasurer of the Cambrian Educational Foundation (CEF). She has also been a member of the School Site Council, District LCAP Committee, and Budget Advisory Committee during her time in the district. She holds a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania and works as the Director of Software Quality for MSD and Automation at Agilent Technologies.

Mrs. Janet Gillis was born in San Jose and has lived in the Cambrian area since 1961. She attended Farnham Elementary, Houge Junior High School, and Camden High School, eventually graduating from West Valley College and San Jose State University. Mrs. Gillis earned a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and holds both a regular and special education teaching credential. In addition, Mrs. Gillis served in the Peace Corps as a TESOL teacher in Senegal. Eventually, she went on to teach in the Cambrian School District from 1993 to 2018, and her children went through the Cambrian School District.

Mr. Nick Villalobos became a board member in December 2022. Having been in the Bay Area since 2007, he has seen the diversity of culture in the community, which has added immensely to his perspective on life and our youth. Mr. Villalobos had the privilege of growing up bilingual/multicultural and attending 20 different schools prior to high school, outside of the state of California. He hopes to bring his perspective and help the Cambrian community through robust, engaging education. Mr. Villalobos's wife is a former elementary school teacher and their three sons are headed for Cambrian schools. As active parents, they understand the value of family and community. Villalobos aims to help keep schools student/family/community-centric, with an emphasis on learning how to be your best self.

Mr. Sergio Martinez was appointed to the Board on March 6, 2025.
Twenty years ago, Sergio arrived in the Bay Area to pursue a degree in Political Science at Santa Clara University – and like so many others, he quickly fell in love with the region and decided to make it his permanent home. Building a successful career in Human Resources, Sergio has always valued the importance of community and education. As a proud Cambrian resident, he's deeply invested in the local schools, with his children attending Ida Price Middle School and Sartorette Elementary, formerly they attended Farnham Elementary, and Fammatre Elementary. He believes strongly in the transformative power of public education and its role in shaping future generations.
Sergio is also a passionate advocate for mental health awareness. As someone who navigates life with ADHD, he understands the importance of open conversations and accessible resources. He strives to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all students.
When he finds a moment of downtime, Sergio treasures time spent with his beloved dogs and cats, finding solace and joy in their companionship. He's an avid nature enthusiast, often seeking out hiking trails and scenic spots to recharge. He also cherishes connections with friends, enjoying lively conversations and shared experiences.
Board Meetings & Public Comments
The Governing Board of Trustees values the Cambrian community and encourages public attendance and comments at meetings. Any member of the public may address the Board at all meetings. Please complete a Public Comment Form and give it to the Superintendent's Secretary prior to the start of the meeting. Comments are limited to three (3) minutes. The Board will not hear complaints against individual officers or employees of the District during open sessions. Board members may not discuss or comment on items and/or concerns expressed under “Public Comments" and may take no action by law.
Board meetings are held at the Cambrian School District Office, 4115 Jacksol Drive, San Jose, CA 95124. Typically, unless otherwise announced, meetings are held at 7:00 p.m., in the District's multi-use building behind the main office.
