After-School District Children’s Choirs
The district and music staff are working closely to find a way to preserve the after-school choral program for all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Cambrian students. Our ability to offer this opportunity is dependent on available resources, staff time, space and funding, and may not be feasible in the coming year. We will keep you updated on any developments.
Strings at Steindorf – Due to the small student population at Steindorf, strings (violin, viola, cello, string bass) are the best choice for building instrumental ensembles. Pedagogically speaking, it is much more difficult to grow musicians in a small band group than it is in a small string ensemble. For decades, the district has been lacking in the offering of string/orchestra instruction to our community. The re-opening of Steindorf is the perfect opportunity for us to provide this new area of music instruction.
Band versus Orchestra – If you have chosen to move your child to Steindorf Magnet School, your student will continue to receive a quality music education.
Note regarding program schedules per location:
1) the various schedules of each school site
2) location and available space in the given ensembles, and
3) student access to daily rehearsals and instructional resources.
Thus, the music opportunities that will be available to your student will be the ones listed at your chosen school site. If you need assistance in deciding what instrument or ensemble would be best for your child to transition to, you are more than welcome to reach out to any member of the music faculty.
Our trained musicians and educators are completely dedicated to making sure your child receives the best music education possible at Cambrian, and appreciate your ongoing trust and support. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the district office or any member of the music faculty.
