RECYCLED ART - HANDMADE TEPEE
APRIL 4, 2015
Students designed, sewed, painted, and constructed a 14foot Tepee made out of brown grocery bags! Students sewed 96 grocery bags together using fishing line. Meanwhile, a small group of students mapped and engineered the exact dimensions for the tepee. Students sketched out designs for the exterior, and then voted for their favorites. These specific symbols and patterns were painted onto the tepee with acrylic paint. Duct tape and white glue were used reinforce the material. Students propped tepee a few times, which requires major teamwork! During this exciting creative process, students learned and discussed Native American traditions, art, and structures.
