This website contains information about the new assessments the students will be taking in place of the old CST/STAR bubble-in-the-answer tests. They are VERY different, and it would be worthwhile to take a peek to see what your children will be tested on in the years to come. These new assessments are connected to the Common Core State Standards. The questions being asked of the students will be more in-depth and complex, and require thinking things through.
In mathematics, the new standards are "over-arched" by the new Standards for Mathematical Practice, which require students to develop new habits in approaching, discussing, and analyzing math situations. (I have put the link to the Common Core on this page as well.) I am also putting a page together for the standards for Math Practice, which our Investigations math program integrates beautifully into the lessons.
