Cambrian School District Board of Trustees approves resolutions in support of California Propositions 55 & 58

The Cambrian School District Governing Board has passed two resolutions in support of ballot initiatives that could potentially impact the district, and all public schools, in the coming election. Prop 55 would temporarily extend the income tax provisions of Proposition 30 for 12 years, with revenues split between K-12 education and health care. The sales tax provisions of Proposition 30 will not be extended. Extending these income tax provisions, which will otherwise sunset in 2018, could generate as much as $4 billion annually for K-12 education, including Cambrian schools. Read the full text of the supporting resolution here.
Prop 58, knowns as the LEARN Initiative, was designed by legislators to repeal the English-only immersion requirement and waiver provisions required by Proposition 227 of 1998. Instead, schools would be allowed to utilize multiple programs, including bilingual education, a method in which students learn from teachers who speak both their native language and English. You can view the full board presentation about the details of Prop 58, as well as the supporting resolution
The deadline to register to vote in California is October 24; registration information can be found on the California Secretary of State's website

These trainings help ensure that in the event of an emergency, personnel are prepared to respond and protect the safety of our students, staff and parents.
