In the summer of 2011, California’s legislature enacted a law which changed the age children may begin Kindergarten.  This new law requires that children must turn 5 years old on or before October 1 to enroll in Kindergarten for the 2013-2014 school year.  The law also created a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) for children with birthdays from September 2 through December 2 To support our young learners, Cambrian offered TK for the 2012-2013 school year and will continue to do so in 2013-2014.  Students with birthdays in October and November 2013 will definitely be a part of TK.  Students with birthdays in September 2013 will have the option of TK or Kindergarten. Registration packets are available at the school sites.  At this time, it looks like we will provide at least two TK classes for our district.

TK is an important bridge between preschool and Kindergarten.  It provides an opportunity for these younger students to experience an enriching and nurturing environment tailored to meet their academic and social needs.  This will also help them succeed in Kindergarten and confidently navigate the school day routine.  Offering transitional kindergarten will help all of our kids get the best start possible, with curriculum that is designed just for them.
